SHAUGN DAVID BRIGGS
A life of Painting and sculpture

Welcome to my web site

Hi, my name is Shaugn David Briggs. This website focuses on my love for painting and sculpture. When I paint, I enjoy creating artworks in a style that reflects New Zealand's culture and stunning landscapes. In sculpture, I enjoy creating original abstracts that have style and movement and are very complex. The sculptures are becoming very popular with increasing commissions and sales throughout New Zealand.

          Testimonials

I had been looking for the past two years for the right Oamaru Stone sculpture, when I finally came across Serendipity by Shaugn Briggs. This sculpture was the one I had been looking for. I contacted Shaugn to see if the sculpture was still available and was delighted to find it was.

Due to my location, I was unable to view the sculpture in person. Shaugn made it easy by providing me with a number of additional photos, which sealed the deal. From there it was easy. Shaugn contacted the freight company who provided a quote to deliver, wrapped and packed the sculpture to ensure it arrived in one piece. I received detailed information on installing, care and protection my new sculpture.

This sculpture is well crafted and looks spectacular in my garden. When dealing with Shaugn, he has made it easy and hassle free and I would recommend his work to anyone.

In May of 2012, we commissioned Shaugn to sculpt a large Koru from Oamaru stone as a centerpiece for our North Canterbury garden. Shaugn followed our brief in every way and kept us informed via emails and photographs at each stage. During the complicated process of delivery from Christchurch to Sefton, Shaugn was instrumental in arranging such a delicate task, and was there on the day to guide and assist in the positioning and putting any finishing touches to the work as required.

We are both thrilled with the sculpture and it has become a talking point for neighbours and passers-by alike.

We thank Shaugn for his dedication and professionalism in his talented work.

Around 2 years ago I was looking for some one to create 3 sculptures in memory of my sister who had passed away.

I was very lucky to find Shaugn Briggs and called him explaining what I was looking for. Shaugn was so helpful and spent many hours with me looking for the type of design I was looking for. Shaugn did a fantastic job with the sculptures and spent many hours making sure they were perfect.

When they were completed I needed them placed in three gardens with in the grounds of Hawksby Trust Where my sister had been a resident for more than 70 years.

Shaugn took it in his hands to organise the people to create the stands for the sculptures and delivered them to the sit and set them up for us.

Shaugn was so amazing the sculptures were absolutely perfect.

I have no hesitation in recommending Shaugn, he is a very pleasant, honest and a very clever sculpture.

We recently commissioned a sculpture from Shaugn and the whole process proved to be an excellent experience. From the initial discussions through to the delivery of the completed work we were kept fully informed on progress via videos and photos. Installation recommendations were also provided. The sculpture was delivered, securely packaged, on time and within budget. The design and craftsmanship are outstanding and we have received many complimentary comments about this unique piece of art.

We are thrilled with the carving that Shaugn has completed for us. He listened to what we wanted, offered suggestions and completed it at a time that was convenient for us. He also used his skills and experience to installed it in a difficult location. We now have the opportunity to admire his work every day.

We would highly recommend Shaugn if you are wanting something special for your home or garden and you value excellent customer service.

I really want to say thanks so much for your wonderful Oamaru carving ( possibly still unnamed ), which still holds pride of place in our section overlooking the Pacific Ocean here at St Clair Dunedin.

We have had so many positive comments about the carving. It is a credit to you for the carving and for others to really appreciate your work.

A real highlight was when you delivered the carving personally in a purpose-made insulated box which would not damage the carving on your trip down to Dunedin from Christchurch.

The carving has many meanings which are left open to the individuals own perceptions of what it really is or could be about ....a talking piece, as they say ...well done, and I personally really appreciate your superb work and the art that you have provided to our family.

When my husband Matt came to New Zealand, he fell in love with the place. He bought a pounamu pikorua. The pikorua represents the path of life, and it can also symbolize the strong bond between lovers. Matt wore his pounamu every day until he died in 2013. Now I have it framed in my bedroom. When I was diagnosed with advanced breast cancer, they tattooed tiny dots on my body to show the radiographers where to line up the radiotherapy. It got me thinking about getting a tattoo where my breast cancer was. I chose a beautiful heart-shaped koru. Tattoos aren’t a thing in my family, and they’re kinda frowned on. But I wanted it there, where nobody could see it, as a little reminder to me of my cancer journey. It represents new beginnings and strength. When I came home to New Zealand in October 2021, I found a flat with a little garden. I filled it with ferns, and I absolutely love it. But something was missing. I found the sculptor Shaugn Briggs, who does beautiful work in Oamaru stone, and asked if he could create something combining Matt’s pikorua with my koru. When Shaugn came back to me with a draft design, he told me his story. He's the youngest of five siblings, and he lost his three brothers in the space of a few years to illness. When I heard that, I knew I’d found the right artist. Someone who knew what it was like to lose people you love, and someone who understood the importance of the piece he was carving to me. The sculpture took a while, because Shaugn was looking after his nephew in the school holidays and spending time with his wife, and I love that too. I really appreciate that he values time with his family. Life’s meant to be about what's important to you at that moment. My sculpture was carved with real aroha. Shaugn understood what I wanted. He understood why it mattered to me. And he delivered something beautiful. So, if you’d like something special for your garden, I highly recommend Shaugn’s beautiful work.

I contacted Shaugn to create a piece for my garden that represents family connections, love and our journeys. Shaugn was so good to work with keeping me up to date with his progress every step of the creation. Sending me images of what the sculpture would look like in the garden was really helpful. I am so thrilled with the sculpture and looks fantastic in my garden. Thanks Shaugn.
