Two Swans, One Heart

Two Swans, One Heart

This commission came to me through a chance encounter. I had delivered some sculptures to a local care facility, and one of the staff members there saw my work and approached me afterwards.

Her sister had recently passed away, and she wanted something beautiful to remember her by. She asked for two swans — their bodies intertwining to form a heart shape. Abstract, but unmistakably tender.

I carved the sculpture in Oamaru stone over two weeks. When she saw the finished piece, she said:

"Oh my god, it's beautiful. It represents the love I feel for my darling sister who recently passed away. I will sit by this beautiful sculpture and think about her."

The video below tells this story better than words ever could.
